A Guide to Celebrating the Season with Style and Representation
Its timeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (in my Mariah Carey voice) Tell me have you started pulling out your Christmas decorations? Are you buying new decorations? For me, I will be pulling out my decorations before Thanksgiving and I am 99% sure I will be adding a few new pieces.
Finding Christmas decorations that truly resonate with Black culture and identity can make the festivities even more meaningful. Last year, was the first year I went all out with the decoration. I purchased a handsome Santa’s at Macy’s. And this year I decided to put together a guide of some of the best stores where you can buy meaningful, inclusive Christmas decorations that represent your family. From ornaments and wreaths to wrapping paper, figurines, inflatables to matching family pajamas. These business offer something for every family looking to add a touch of cultural significance to their holiday decor.
Black Santa’s and Figurines
I worked at Macy’s while in undergrad. It was the perfect place to be during the holidays. There was so much cheer. Customers were so nice- it just felt like a Christmas workshop lol, literally. Since then, Macy’s has been one of my favorite places to shop all year round. Last year, I purchased a handsome sitting melanated Santa. I sat him up high on my etegere. Not only do they have black santas, but nutcrackers, angles, and noble religious figurines. Here is a shopping guide of some of the most handsome Black Santa’s.
- Brands at Macy’s : Check out the Holiday Lane and The Black Paper Party, Napco, Kurt Alder, and Fitz and Floyd brands for all your melanated Christmas Decor

Tree Toppers, Ornaments and Wrapping Paper
From Tree Toppers, ornaments, wrapping paper or even cups you will have no problem finding what you need and want. I love the Black Paper Company’s wrapping paper displaying jolly black characters.
Holiday Pajamas and Matching Outfits
There’s nothing better than matching family pajamas. I found some styles online at macys, JCPenney, Children’s Place and Pottery Barn.
CHRISTMAS PAJAMAS FOR PET MOM & DAD’S
While doing some e-shopping I did notice that there was a lack of diversity for pet mom and dads. I was only able to find these pet pajamas from Hanna & Anderson that represented melanated Santa’s- organic cotton too !
Black Christmas Home Decor
I love exclusice home decor and I was able to find some that represent black families. My favorite is this Black Santa serving dish. It’s a perfect dish for cookies, deserts hosting holiday parties or what have you.
I love the Black Paper Company’s ‘ Rich Auntie’ Christmas theme line. If you are a Rich Auntie, these cups are perfect for you.
