Congratulations and welcome to motherhood
Deciding to breastfeed your child is a great decision. It is personal, it’s exciting. One of the first steps of your breastfeeding journey is to order a breast pump. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare, insurance companies, including private carries are required to cover breastfeeding support, counsel and equipment, for moms.
How to order a breast bump ?
1. Breast pumps comes manual and electric. Before buying any other supplies or accessories you want to first order a breast pump for free through your insurance.
2.Notify your Midwife/ OBGYN that you would like to breastfeed. – They will create a script.
3.Ask them which company they are sending the script to. For instance, my midwife sent it to Acceleron
4.Go to Accelleron’s website, input your insurance info and choose your pump and accessories. They have great representatives, so if you have any trouble deciding they are there to help.
5.Wait for the pump to arrive ! It arrives pretty quickly too.
6.Watch my youtube video of me unboxing my medela breast pump.
Will my insurance cover a breast pump ?
Please do not worry about the type of insurance you have. Acceleron caters to 100+ insurance carries, even medicaid. Just simply follow the steps above. With my first pregnancy I received the Medela Pump In Style Advanced breast pump. With my second pregnancy how I choose the Ameda Mya Joy breast pump.
When Should I Order a Breast Pump?
It depends on your insurance, some insurance will not deliver the pump until 30 days prior and some will deliver it right after birth. Either or don’t worry you will receive your pump upon baby arrivals. If your pump did not arrive before baby and you want to start pumping right after birth, then your hospital will gladly supply you with one; just ask !
